#ShesBossy : Penda Baldeh

November 17, a BOSS was born, brought into this world to slay! Penda Baldeh is Gambia made, but a Bronx raised QUEEN. At the age of 23, Penda is in school for law but one day whats to own her own cosmetics line that caters to all skin tones. She believes that there is beauty in all tones and wants to create a brand that allows us women to feel comfortable in their own skin.

I had the chance to interview Penda and get an understanding of her 2 year MUA journey and what are her plans for the up coming months.

Penda Baldeh: I got inspired to do makeup because I went to this makeup place to get my makeup done and at the time I was working as a cashier at Sephora. It was my first week working there and honestly I knew nothing about makeup. Apparently the foundation I was wearing wasn't my color and as soon as I walked in the makeup shop to get my face done the makeup artist started laughing at me. She started to say the color of foundation I had made me look like a clown. I look crazy and why would I go out that way. I was determined from then to learn how to do makeup, because I didn't want to experience that again. It was embarrassing for me but it was a learning experience. I practiced everyday for 3 months until I got placed as a makeup artist at Sephora.

I do makeup because it is inspirational for me. I love making someone feel extra pretty for whatever event they are going to attend. At times I've even had some of my clients cry tears of joy because they don't feel beautiful at times and at least for one day they get to feel beautiful. This isn't only for fun this is something I love to do.

I have a lot planned for my brand. The first thing is to get noticed on Instagram. I have a lot of Facebook following but I do want to have the same on Instagram. I also want to have more YouTube subscribers, I want to post more to teach everyone my techniques. I also want to have my own cosmetics line. I want that line to work for every shade of skin tone.

I began doing makeup for people in February of 2014. I was doing it at work as a makeup artist but I started taking freelance clients in 2015.

I see my business growing with more. I have so many clients now and I never imagined it could be possible. I am honestly blessed and I pray God keeps blessing me with these beautiful ladies.
